Athletics
The Diocesan after-school sports program is designed to provide positive and well-organized activities that contribute to the holistic development of every child. Our program serves as a model for Christian principles and the ideals of good sportsmanship, catering to boys and girls in grades 4 through 8. The primary goals and objectives include:
- Development of Athletic Skills: Fostering skills related to athletic achievement.
- Promotion of Sportsmanship: Instilling qualities that reflect good sportsmanship.
- Encouragement of Team Spirit: Developing a sense of team spirit and responsibility while appreciating individual accomplishments.
- Facilitation of Healthy Competition: Providing experiences of healthy, fair competition.
Program Structure:
Students can engage in three separate sports seasons: volleyball, basketball, and track. The Junior Varsity level program, starting in 4th grade, primarily focuses on skill development and prepares athletes for the next level of competition. The Varsity level program, open to 6th-8th graders on a tryout basis, offers a higher level of competition preparing students for high school athletics.
Requirements to Participate:
A completed physical examination form must be submitted to the school office before the first day of practice. Physical examinations are valid for one year, and the required Diocesan Sports Medical Form is available in the school office. Permission forms and sports fees must be submitted and paid at the school office. Fees contribute to the cost of the sports program, including officials' payments, and are due for each sport in which a student participates.
Parental Involvement:
-
- Driving: Parents driving students to or from extracurricular activities must fulfill all child safety requirements of the Diocese or parish, and Diocesan policy requires drivers to be 25 years of age.
- Coaching: Coaches are expected to conduct themselves in a manner consistent with the values of the Catholic Christian faith and adhere to the rules outlined in the Diocesan Sports Handbook.
- Appropriate Behavior: Emphasizing good sportsmanship, parents and fans are expected to model respectful behavior towards coaches, players, and officials.
